General insurance companies yet to get major claims

Friday 04, November, 2005 The bomb blasts that took place last week in Delhi has left everyone shocked. The damage caused due to this dreadful act has been quite massive. The estimated damage of these bomb blasts is Rs 50 crore but the claims received are a mere Rs 15 lakhs. The only reason being, lack of insurance. Insurance penetration has not been quite impressive especially among the small shopkeepers as most of them are unaware of it. However, the number of claims is expected to rise after Diwali. So far the claims received by general insurance companies are majorly from the big shopkeepers. The above mentioned condition shows that there is still need for insurance awareness in our country. There is still a large chunk of population who are totally unaware of the benefits of insurance.
