Insurance employees may go on nationwide strike

Wednesday 08, August, 2012 Insurance employees through out the whole country will go for a new episode of nationwide stir to protest against Government's move to pass Insurance amendment bill 2008 in the Monsoon Session of parliament that has began today. "We will go for one day token strike through out the whole country if the central Government passes Insurance Law Amendment Bill -2008 in Monsoon Session of parliament. The token strike will be followed by many other protest steps,"- said Mr. S. Choudhury, All India Working Committee member of All India Insurance Employees Association. "This will be followed by several campaigns, gate meetings, street cornering etc. on 16th and 17th August. We had protest demonstration in insurance office gates today," added Mr. Choudhury. The government introduced the Insurance Laws (amendment) bill, 2008 in the Rajya Sabha in December 2008 to allow foreign participation in the sector upto 49% instead of existing ceiling of 26%.
