Plea on rent control Act

Saturday 24, June, 2006 The State Government's step to increase the exemption limit from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,500 a month instead of scrapping the AP Rent Control Act is `retrograde', said the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham).

In effect, it has opened up floodgates for a fresh wave of litigation between landlords and tenants, it said in a press release.

This was also contradictory to the view that the State Government was scrapping the Act to comply with the requirements of the World Bank and Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, Assocham said.
